I have decided to build the Dayton Home Theater speakers found on the Parts-Express and this website, under Projects.
It was designed by "Wayne J". I have some questions, and e-mailed to him from this website, (www.speakerbuilder.net), but received no response.
Perhaps if I repeat the Qs here, I could get some useful advice:
1. Does his design assume stuffing in the box?
2. Was the crossover mounted inside the box?
3. There are no stiffeners in the box?
4. To improve "spousal acceptance" response I would to use a grill. But I would have thought that a frame for the grill, so close to the speakers in such a small box would have a significant unwanted effect. Is that true even if I were to make the frame thin and out of maybe 0.1" - 1/8 material? How about the impact of using 3/4 grill foam (no frame)?
Would very much appreciate good advice on these concerns.
Mike

Wayne doesn't/hasn't come around, haven't seen much activity here in years. I just happen to stumble by.
The design you are asking about is nearly 8-9 years old, if you haven't ordered the parts yet.
I would highly recommend you check out the TriTrix design at partsexpress showcase.
There is a smaller MT version you can find here under TriTrixMT:

Curt is well known and he will answer your emails and he is a real nice guy too.His design is more current,it uses the round frame 5 1/4" dayton. You won't regret it.
but to answer your questions:
I would assume there is some stuffing like poly-fil how much I can't say since he doesn't specify.
The crossover is almost always mounted in the box.
I don't think that design has any braces the cut list doesn't show any and it's a pretty small enclosure.
The grill will cause "some" interaction but I doubt it will have any significant impact.
