You can place the port on the front of the baffle and it will not affect the bass response at all. The only potential drawback could be audibility of any port noise. From my experience the velocity of the air in the port is very low and shouldn’t be audible at all.

I didn't think it would make very much difference, but the eros being the high end speaker that it is, I didn't want to take any chances on altering its sound.
