Infinity POS IIs

Hello -- I'm restoring a pair of old Infinity POS II speakers. They are two-way ported with 10" woofers and 2" tweeters. Dimensions: 24" H, 13" W, 12" D -- volume approx. 2.17'. Ports are 2" wide, 8" long. I want to replace the original drivers and crossovers with the following combination of parts recommended by a Parts Express tecnician:

DAYTON DC250-8 10" CLASSIC WOOFER http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=295-315

MOREL MDT-20 1-1/8" SOFT DOME TWEETER
http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=277-030

DAYTON XO2W-2K 2-WAY CROSSOVER 2,000 Hz
http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=260-140

Does this seem like a good combination?
Any advice would be appreciated -- please let me know if additional info is required.

Dude, you may as well go to Radio Shack, dude.

Re: Infinity POS IIs

Everyone I have read on the boards seems to think a 10" 2-way is a hard combination to make work well. The Dayton 10" is a good buy but it is not a great wide range performer. The Morel 20 is a good tweet and could crossover at 2,000 Hz second order but getting the phase is one of the problems with a 10" two way. Are you adverse to adding a midrange like the Lyra?

Re: Re: Infinity POS IIs

No, not adverse, but I'm not sure how well the Lyra would fit -- the two openings are centered vertically on the baffle...

Re: Re: Re: Infinity POS IIs

Could you plug the holes and recut the front baffle?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Infinity POS IIs

Now that I might be adverse to (not to mention not having the tools to do it). Could you please expound on "getting the phase is one of the problems with a 10" two way" Not sure what you mean. Thanks

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Infinity POS IIs

When you crossover a speaker to another speaker, in this case a 10" Dayton to a Morel 1 1/8" tweeter, you want both speakers moving in the same direction at the crossover point so you don't have a null in the response (dip). Kind of like being out of phase when you hook up one stereo speaker cabinet in a stereo set-up + - and the other speaker cabinet - +. Both the 10" and the tweet are moving in the same direction at the frequency where they are both working (the crossover slope). I hope I did a decent job of explaining.

If you can find a wood worker to cut a hole for the midrange (using a router so it can be flush mounted)you could use the Lyra crossover and the Dayton midrange with the 10" Dayton and Silk 1 1/8" Dayton tweeter and not have to worry about crossover design, just use Wayne's.
