Disco-psych?

Does such a genre exist? and if so, is this it?

Re: Disco-psych?

Love the backdrop and choreography, certainly pretty continental late 60s looking. Reminds me of that Dave Clark 5 special from '69 where they did 5 x 5 and all those dancing girls came in.However, Raffaela has already been nabbed as a junkshop / Euro glam classic, so the psychsters can't have her!

In the same devolved funk/proto-disco mould but from a top of the pops episode so sans the budget for a glitzy vid or any dancers seemingly, comes Zenda Jacks (the goddess of love) and 'rub my tummy'. She's a junkshop glam queen too!

omegod, not our "national" Raffaella!

Quite a nice song anyway, but it's 1974! only psych link is... Shel Shapiro (of The Rokes) who co-wrote it

Re: Disco-psych?

Hi lads,

it just struck me as quite similar to Shocking Blue's Venus and as Paul has said the video looks more late 60s than 1974. Some psychedelic music did morph into Funk which had a large part to play in Disco.

Sorry Paul, good song, but I just can't look at Zenda without thinking Ronald McDonald in drag! .

How about some Hebrew psych then?

Re: Disco-psych?

Great song, what a front line of guitars! Is there an album's worth of songs like that by them? I'd be up for it if so, lovely stuff.

Still in Israel, here's a party pooping JS glam / proto punk crossover or maybe just an oddity:

Ariel Silber - Movie Instead (Israel 1971)

Re: Disco-psych?

Found some 1989 issued CD offers on Discogs and eBay for this:

Kaveret - Poogy Tales CD which includs the 'Yo-Ya' song. Very reasonable price too.

Re: Disco-psych?

I don't think I'd recommend the CD Paul. I've listened to a good few of their songs from their 1st lp on YouTube and they are mostly humorous/jokey songs with a lot of puns based on the Hebrew language. Its lost on me I'm afraid. The lp is fairly cheap too if anyone wants to chance it.

Actually Shapiro only arranged it
