Regal Zonophone 2
Just curious how many of you who look in here but only read posts & loiter and don't post anything themselves?
I've noticed it's been bereft of discussion lately, excepting the good people who do still post regular, but it's the same people who are doing this regular.
Though this is NOT my site/discussion group,I do try too keep it tidy now and then, admittedly I very rarely post myself these days on here and because it's become so bereft of those wanting to discuss things, though I and others have attempted numerous times to generate discussion....... with little success in getting folks to come out of their shells.
As this site fees are paid by Andy,so when it comes up for renewal I think it's NOT fair for Andy to shell out once more, and begs the question, should it be paid, shall we let this group lay down after over 20 years as the traffic seems very small, hence very few are posting or even discussing much here which is sad as this was once a hive of activity with eager discussion regular. The good old days.
Lives are there to live, and People DO move on to other things, and a Message board ISN'T important in the routine of Life, but it can be fun and was fun to see what others are listening to etc & into similar Things........Oh well!!!
Hi Stuart,
It is a pity it seems so quiet around here. I don't post as much as I used to. Have people moved onto Instagram or elsewhere? 🤔 I don't know. Or maybe the number of fans of 60s psych is just decreasing.
Anyway thanks Stuart (and others) for keeping the freak flag flying.
Hi Stuart
Like you I am disappointed by the lack of discussion that takes place here. Having said that I don't think that peeps really want to discuss the merits of albums that were released 60 years ago. To be honest most of the decent stuff has already been mulled over on this forum and I personally can't get excited about reissues or 'cash-in' compilations of the 'scraping the bottom of the barrel' type. If you have a fave artist or band almost everything you need to know regarding their output is on Discogs. Likewise it's possible to sample or grab almost anything of interest via sites like YT or SS. I follow quite a few psych groups on FB but seldom comment on the posts I read. I use them simply as a 'heads up' for stuff that might have gone under the radar, so I totally understand the lurker concept.
So if nobody wants to rediscuss the albums of yesteryear where does that leave us? Well, as I've been trying to show with my comp freebies there are lots of bands out there producing quality psychedelia but I'm guessing that the 'yesteryear' cohort (no disrespect) aren't interested and if they are they're not up for a discussion.
Another point I'd like to make is about manners. In that respect I'm old school. If somebody does me a favour I acknowledge the fact and make the effort to show my appreciation. Regarding the comps I've been giving away they take a lot of work, researching, locating, downloading, sampling, sorting, editting, tagging, making up cover art etc. Each post receives 100+ views and I see from the number of downloads that there is a fair amount of interest but I can count on one hand the number of people who offer their thanks. To be honest I'm NOT doing it for thanks I do the comps for me but my altruistic nature says why not share. I use to post a monthly list of albums that I thought others might enjoy but nobody acknowledged these posts so I thought why am I bothering and stopped and that is the unfortunate outcome and I guess it happens a lot. You can think of it as a negative spiral where posts diminish due to lack of support until the site becomes redundant.
To be honest I get little from this site other than the friendships I've developed over the years. So to the non-responders, it's your choice you can support RZ by way of new topics and discussion or not, but don't be surprised if you try logging in one day and find the site is no longer available due to lack of support.

P.S. My gratitude to Andy for keeping the site up and running for so long.
